Letter from the Editors:

This year's midterm elections have come and gone.  The Republicans are now in control of the White House and Congress.  And war with Iraq is now an imminent certainty.  Criticism from the Left has been commodified and the Democrats are increasingly hard to distinguish from their Republican counterparts.  What's wrong with American politics and why is it that a two-party representative system can only produce the same kind of candidates year after year?  How is it that in a supposedly Liberal state like California, voters can re-elect Democratic candidates to the governor's office but send Republicans to Washington?

I don't know that I have the answers to any of these questions.  But a few of our articles this month try to grapple with these issues.  We also have lots of music reviews, just for fun, and some movie/book suggestions that are just in time for your winter hiatus.
